I’m dating an Indian man. There are many cultural practices his family does both before and during weddings, and after as a send off. I’m embracing his cultural traditions with open arms and am open to the idea of participating in his wedding traditions when it’s time for us to tie the knot.
Lately I’ve been seeing people online saying Black Americans shouldn’t jump the broom if they’re in an interracial relationship. It’s the only cultural practice we do for weddings, aside from some dances at the reception. I just feel like, is it really so taboo to jump the broom with a non-Black partner? I just feel some judgment for wanting to share one of the only cultural wedding practices I really have with my partner.
